Why a Three-Shop Basket Has Three Delivery Charges

Midmart books no couriers, so each shop ships its own parcel and charges its own rate. Here is how to work with that instead of against it.

Why a Three-Shop Basket Has Three Delivery Charges

If you have shopped on the big marketplaces, you expect one delivery fee at the end no matter how many sellers your basket touches. That works because those platforms book the couriers themselves and pool the parcels. Midmart does not book couriers at all — each shop ships with whatever service it already uses — so each shop charges its own delivery, and a basket that spans three shops carries three of them.

It is the honest consequence of the model, and once you know it, it is easy to plan around.

The three zones

Every shop sets its own rate for the same three zones, and your delivery district decides which one applies:

  • Inside Dhaka — the cheapest and usually the fastest.
  • Outside Dhaka City — other city addresses across the country.
  • Suburban & Rural — upazila and village addresses, where the last leg costs the courier most.

Two shops selling the same product can quote very different delivery for the same address, because they use different couriers and price them differently. That is visible before you order, and it is part of the price comparison.

Free delivery thresholds

A shop can set a basket value above which it ships free. That threshold is per shop, not across your whole basket — so ৳900 with one shop may earn free delivery, while ৳900 split across three shops earns none. If a shop is close to its threshold, adding one more item from the same shop is often cheaper than the delivery charge you avoid.

Five ways to keep the total down

  1. Buy more from fewer shops. The single biggest lever, and the reason shop pages are worth browsing rather than only searching.
  2. Check the shop's zone rate before adding to cart. It is on the product page and the shop profile.
  3. Watch for a free-delivery threshold and see how far you are from it.
  4. Compare total landed cost, not price. The cheaper listing plus a higher delivery charge is often the more expensive order.
  5. Group non-urgent items. If you will need something from that shop next month anyway, buying it now saves a whole second delivery.

What you get in return

Nothing is taken out of the seller's price to pay for a platform-run courier network, because there is no such network to pay for. Each shop keeps its full order total, sets a delivery rate it can actually honour, and answers for it directly. The trade-off is that the marketplace cannot hide the second and third parcel behind one number — so it shows you all three instead.
